Logistics consulting to redesign processes and increase capacity

rescue-tec GmbH & Co. KG, based in Runkel-Ennerich in Hesse, is an expert in the field of high-quality protective equipment for aid organizations, trades and companies. The company sells over 6,000 products of various brands as well as numerous in-house developments. Renowned fire departments, aid organizations and companies throughout Europe rely on rescue-tec’s comprehensive product expertise and have individual, tailor-made solutions designed for them. The products are sold via the company’s own online store on the Internet and the store at the company headquarters.

External logistics expertise as the key to success

After more than 20 years of development and success with constantly growing sales figures, a further spatial and logistical growth step has become imperative for the company. In addition, the logistics processes are currently still spread across two storage areas on the company premises, which makes it increasingly difficult to ensure efficient processes. Managing Director Jörg Hergenhahn therefore thought about expanding capacity at an early stage. With the construction of a new small logistics center, all steps from incoming goods to outgoing goods are to be optimally adapted to the special product range. In order to set the right course right from the start, Hergenhahn looked for a service partner who would reliably and trustingly carry out and accompany the essential consulting, planning and implementation steps.

Logistics consulting with process redesign

The choice fell on PureLoX SOLUTIONS GmbH from near Koblenz, whose plx.consulting division offers exactly what was crucial for rescue-tec. Above all, this included the ability to provide integrated consulting and planning of all relevant solution components with a view to the overall strategic direction and the current technical possibilities.

Florian Schüller, Managing Director of PureLoX, describes the project manager’s approach at rescue-tec: “In a first step, we determined the status quo, the expected challenges and the project goals together with our customer. This gives everyone involved orientation and transparency. We developed the planning basis based on this in our consulting phase with an as-is assessment, evaluation and target analysis. The integrated overall concept was then developed in the subsequent planning phase in order to reliably achieve the project objectives. In the case of rescue-tec, this essentially involved merging and redesigning the logistics processes with a significant increase in capacity, the gradual relocation to the new building, securing and increasing throughput and also using the existing infrastructure and racking technology. We made full use of the space available in the planned logistics center in all directions.”

Consulting, planning, tendering, coordination, technical acceptance ...

During the consulting and planning phase, joint workshops were held to coordinate the individual steps and clearly define the requirements. On this basis, the tender documents were then drawn up and the tendering process carried out. This included the preparation of the specifications and the review of the functional specifications by PureLoX. The construction of the new logistics center could be started as planned and was supported by PureLoX in the coordination of the suppliers and the technical acceptance.

Jörg Hergenhahn, Managing Director of rescue-tec, sums up the cooperation so far: “It was important for us that all decisions that had to be made were well-founded from a technical and economic point of view.
