The new logistics center in Porta Westfalica, with over 7,500 square meters of space, has room for 13,800 pallets with around 8,000 different items. The modern high-bay warehouse stacks goods up to a height of 21 meters. Five packing stations are available for handling parcel deliveries. Lorry deliveries are prepared at eight packing stations and leave the warehouse at six docking stations.

As the logistics center began to operate, it became apparent that existing potential was not yet being fully exploited. It was therefore clear to those responsible at JACOB that the processes needed to be optimized quickly in order to increase delivery performance. A full-service provider, PureLoX SOLUTIONS GmbH from near Koblenz, was commissioned with this comprehensive challenge. PureLoX has broad solution expertise in the planning, design and optimization of automated, digital and manual processes for the logistics industry.

“In order to meet the requirements in a timely manner, we developed a solution concept and proceeded in two coordinated steps. The first step involved increasing performance figures by optimizing processes in the system, optimizing order processing by prioritizing orders, setting up a new warehouse area for picking TOP100 items including replenishment control, training employees and supporting the control station in day-to-day operations. The second step involved the concept for optimizing the consolidation of the flow of goods from different warehouse areas, improving the quality of shipping performance to the customer and interface coordination with the SAP host system,” says Georg Weier, Head of Implementation and Service at PureLoX, describing the project at JACOB.

The result was convincing. The productivity of the logistics center – in the individual sub-areas and overall – was increased efficiently and effectively. In a next step, PureLoX SOLUTIONS will tackle the improvement of process reliability through an integrated volume calculation – a next milestone towards productivity and delivery performance of the new JACOB logistics center.
