Warehouse management software for new production and storage site

“plx.wmx” ensures reliable production supply and manages the handling of raw materials and finished products with sophisticated strategies.

Since its foundation in 1988, St. Hippolyt Mühle Ebert GmbH has made it its mission to provide horses with healthy and vital nutrition for the long term, in line with its own mission statement “Feed like nature”. Today, the company is one of the best-known and leading brands in the horse feed sector.

New capacities for production and logistics

Production of the wide range of products has so far largely taken place at St. Hippolyt Mühle Ebert in Dielheim under strict quality criteria with regard to raw materials, processes and ecological guidelines. To increase capacity, an additional production and warehouse site was opened in Dielheim in August 2023. Numerous items for the B2B and B2C markets are manufactured and shipped there. Bernd Ebert, Managing Director of St. Hippolyt Mühle Ebert GmbH:

“The objectives for our new location were a high degree of automation of the warehouse processes, an increase in our goods turnover during the night and the integration of important requirements for the growing e-commerce sales channel. We wanted to set up highly efficient production and warehouse logistics that are tailored to our product and customer requirements. Together with our partners, we have achieved this. The intelligently networked software solution from PureLoX SOLUTIONS ensures that the processes are as cost-effective as possible.”

Networked software solution

The “Atlas® 2D pallet shuttle system” from stow Robotics is used as an automated pallet warehouse at the new site. A total of around 3,000 pallets, both Euro and industrial pallets, can be stored, transferred and retrieved according to various strategies. The WMS solution for warehouse management and process management is “plx.wmx” from PureLoX SOLUTIONS. plx.wmx communicates with the automated system from stow Robotics and with the ERP. At St. Hippolyt, the ERP software “eEvolution” from COMPRA has been newly introduced and integrated.

The warehouse management software plx.wmx manages and optimizes the logistics processes in the automated pallet shuttle warehouse. To do this, the WMS takes the orders or incoming goods items from the ERP, automatically generates transport orders and forwards them to the stow system. plx.wmx reports current information about the stock in the warehouse or the order status back to the ERP. The occupancy of the storage locations and the status of completed orders can be called up at any time. The overall status of the automated system can be monitored in real time using the integrated graphic visualization.

Interfaces made simple

To connect to other systems and applications, plx.wmx offers standardized interfaces that use the uniform infrastructure of the World Wide Web on the Internet, or REST API for short. This enables simple communication between systems using HTTP methods. Eduard Roh, consultant at PureLoX:

“Networking the systems with REST-API is quick and easy. We can implement interfaces and test them directly within a very short time. This allowed us to flexibly align the communication between our WMS solution and our customer’s new ERP and make all information available to the individual systems and users in a targeted manner. This enabled us to achieve the high degree of automation of the networked overall solution.”

Logistical requirements

The warehouse management software plx.wmx manages and optimizes the flow of goods in the automated pallet shuttle warehouse. The basic functions can be used to map the warehouse structure, manage master data and optimize processes such as location search with a wide variety of strategies or picking. Items are stored according to rules that can be defined in the software. Special requirements for warehousing and shipping can be flexibly integrated. For St. Hippolyt, for example, this includes special rules for storage (best before date and batch-managed items) and retrieval (FEFO principle). In outgoing goods, the software supports the processes with order management and configurable allocation rules.

Simple software implementation

The ultra-modern technology platform from plx.wmx, for example with low-code and microservices, enabled a lean and agile implementation process without a specification sheet. A joint workshop was sufficient to define the requirements for the processes. Customizing and configuration could then be seamlessly implemented. The standardized REST API interfaces enabled efficient networking with the new ERP system. The software interface is also easy to use. This meant that user training could be carried out in targeted online sessions. The test phase took place under realistic conditions in a separate software environment, largely remotely. This meant that only one on-site appointment was required in Dielheim before the go-live. This also meant that the time required by the project team on the customer and service provider side could be kept very lean. Bernd Ebert sums up:

“We are delighted that we have successfully put the new site into operation. Together with our system and software partners, we have created a powerful overall solution with which we are very well positioned for the future. The collaboration with PureLoX SOLUTIONS has been very efficient for us. We look forward to continuing our partnership.”
